If then it is the role of the church to equip and prepare its members to be missional, how does the church do that? What does it look like?

That's a great question and that's what I'm trying to learn, since this is different than anything I was taught during my 8 years of school.

Reggie McNeal, in Missional Renaissance, gives these steps:
Shift from an internal to an external focus, changing the appropriate "scorecard."
Shift from program development to people development, changing that "scorecard" from measuring programs to helping people grow.
Shift from being church-based to Kingdom-based in the leadership, changing that "scorecard" as well.

I'm working through that book right now, trying to learn this stuff. I know of one idea off the top of my head, which is when the church gathers, they share stories and celebrate the ways they've blessed people throughout the week. So the point isn't getting people to church but getting the church to bless people in the world around them.

So that's just one idea.
